Speed Duo FeLV/FIV

FeLV antigens & anti-FIV antibodies

Why use Speed® Duo FeLV/FIV?

Infection with the feline leukemogenic virus (FeLV) causes very variable and poorly specific symptoms. The differential diagnosis includes FIV and feline coronavirus, which makes laboratory testing essential.

Moreover, the clinical phase is preceded by a more or less long asymptomatic phase. This imposes the recourse to the biological examinations within the framework of the differential diagnosis.

Regular screening of cats infected with FeLV is considered as the best means of fighting the virus (2). Depending on the regions affected, studies show prevalences of 1 to 20%. The detection of soluble virable antigens makes it possible to determine an animal’s status even when there is a very low viral load in the blood (early infection, transient viremia, sequestrated infection).

When should you perform Speed® Duo FeLV/FIV?

Speed® Duo FeLV/FIV are ideally suited to the regular monitoring of the FeLV and the FIV status. They can be proposed at the annual visit or before elective surgery, and more commonly following regular exposure to the virus.

In rescue situation as well as in catteries, the determination of the status of new arrivals can be used to prevent unaffected cats from being exposed to the virus. An animal’s status can be tested 28 days after potential exposure to the virus.Speed® Duo FeLV/FIV are recommended prior to vaccination against FeLV, to prevent vaccination failure (2).

  • The technology of SpeedDuo® FeLV/FIV based on the detection of soluble viral antigens makes him highly sensitive.
